With its distinguished status as Denmark’s oldest city, Ribe presents a wholly unique atmosphere. In only a few places in the country can you find such a well-preserved medieval city centre with paved streets, old timber-framed houses and an imposing cathedral at the centre.

Everywhere in Ribe you come across features that many other cities lost long ago. A stroll through the old part of the city is a stroll back in time. A large number of the city’s beautiful buildings can be linked to famous persons and periods in the city’s thousand-year long history, to which the many plaques testify.
